** PLEASE READ ENTIRE DOCUMENT AS IT EXPLAINS OUR POLICIES AND YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES **
The following document outlines the agreement when adopting a cat through Rescue Siamese. These terms provide the requirements of owning a Rescue Siamese cat.
All cat adoption packages include alteration (spay or neuter), first vaccinations, deworming, ELISA snap test for FIV/FeLV, tattoo and/or microchip ID and a veterinarian health exam. Rescue Siamese offers a two week health/adjustment period to all adopters.
The adoption fee is due in full prior to the adopter taking physical custody of the cat. If for any reason the cat does not work out in the new home and is returned back into our care within 14 days, the adoption fee less an administrative fee of $20 will be returned to the adopter.
Please note, Rescue Siamese reserves the right to refuse adoption for any reason. Homes are selected based on the individual needs of the cat available for adoption, and homes for special needs cats may be subject to an individualized adoption process.
Adoption fees, less a $20 administration fee will be returned for any cat returned to the rescue within 14 days. Regardless of the time a cat may be in the home, without exception, all cats must be returned to Rescue Siamese if the adoptive family is not able or interested in keeping the cat, or legal action may be taken.
If the adoptive family has located new potential owners, they may not place the cat without the written consent of a Director of Rescue Siamese. Although Rescue Siamese will take the family’s wishes regarding placement into consideration, Rescue Siamese has the final determination. The new family must meet all adoption criteria and must sign an adoption contract with Rescue Siamese. If the cat has been placed without the consent of Rescue Siamese, the shelter reserves the right to repossess the cat.
Adopted cats may not be surrendered to any other shelter (including the Winnipeg Humane Society), rescue or animal facility. If a Rescue Siamese cat is discovered in any shelter, rescue or animal facility, any expenses incurred to Rescue Siamese to retrieve the cat will be billed to the original adopter on file with Rescue Siamese accordingly. No cat adopted from Rescue Siamese shall be euthanized without expressed written consent from Rescue Siamese unless the cat is too old, ill or injured beyond reasonable recovery. In the regard of illness or injury, Rescue Siamese must be contacted.
If it is discovered that any cat adopted from Rescue Siamese is being kept in neglectful conditions as determined by the Manitoba Animal Care Act, Rescue Siamese reserves the right to repossess the cat at that time and the adoption fee will be forfeited. The situation may or may not be discussed prior to the seizure of the cat dependent of the condition of the cat. This clause also includes any training methods deemed cruel or inhumane by Rescue Siamese such as surgical amputation of the cat’s toes or declawing.
No cat adopted from Rescue Siamese may be allowed to roam freely out of doors. Rescue Siamese cats must be supervised and restrained on a harness or contained to a cat enclosure in the yard of the adopter at all times. Rescue Siamese cats found to be running at large will be immediately repossessed and the adopter will forfeit the adoption fee.
All cats adopted through Rescue Siamese are spayed and neutered prior to adoption. Any intact Rescue Siamese cats adopted by their foster care home, must be sterilized (spayed or neutered) within 14 days of the adoption.
Until such a time as alteration takes place, the cat remains the sole property of Rescue Siamese and the rescue retains the right to repossess any cat that has not been altered according to this policy. Adoption fees will not be returned if the un-altered cat is repossessed by the rescue.
All cats adopted through Rescue Siamese are vetted prior to adoption. In the event that any health concerns arise within the 14 days following adoption, the cat must be returned to the care of Rescue Siamese to be treated at the rescue’s preapproved veterinary clinics.
Unapproved Veterinary expenses incurred at another clinic will not be reimbursed by Rescue Siamese. In the event that treatment is beyond the financial means of Rescue Siamese, the adoptive family may choose to manage the expenses or return the cat to Rescue Siamese with reimbursement of adoption fees less a $20 administrative fee.
This policy is null and void if the health issue is due directly to a cause that should have been prevented by the adoptive family or due to external circumstances beyond the rescue’s or adoptive family’s control. For instance, if the cat gets loose and incurs injury, or if the cat ingests toxins or foreign materials. Any medical expenses incurred after the 14 days following the adoption will be the responsibility of the adopter.
Siamese cats are known to be particularly susceptible to toxins and immune mediated conditions. Special care must be taken in their oral (mouth, teeth, gums) health as they are prone to periodontal disease and often regular dental procedures are required to keep the cat healthy for its lifetime. If periodontal disease is not treated it will lead to wasting (starvation because the cat can’t eat properly), kidney or heart failure. The normal lifespan for a Siamese cat is 18-22 years.
Any equipment loaned to an adoptive family must be returned within 14 days of the adoption. Returned equipment like carriers, dishes or litter boxes must be clean and free of urine, feces or debris. We expect normal wear and tear and items subject to chewing or scratching (as long as it is not excessive) will not be considered damaged.
Rescue Siamese cannot be held responsible for any damages that occur in adoptive homes, and is not liable for direct, indirect, accidental, special or consequential damages arising out of or relating to cats adopted through Rescue Siamese, whether framed as a breach of warranty, upon any legal theory, in tort, contract, failure of essential purpose, or otherwise.
Rescue Siamese makes no warranty, express or implied regarding any of our cats in our rescue. Adoptive families are required to report any concerns to the rescue, and any cat adopted through Rescue Siamese will be accepted back into the care of Rescue Siamese in the event they are not working out in their adoptive home. In the event of any emergency, where a cat needs to be removed immediately, night or day, please contact Rescue Siamese at 204-255-6896.
